The Polaris Sportsman is quite possibly the most popular ATV line ever built.  Since its inception in 1993, Polaris has manufactured well over one MILLION units, making it the best-selling utility ATV platform in the industry.  But as with anything mechanical, there have been some issues that have come to the surface, and there was a run of Sportsman 600’s and 700’s from 2002 to mid-2004 that were plagued with electrical problems and failure of the ignition system was a matter of when, not if.

The Yamaha Raptor 250 is, hands down, one of the greatest ATVs available.  It’s light, it’s reliable, it handles great, and whether it’s a teenager honing their skills or a highly experienced rider just out having fun, everyone comes back with a smile after a ride on the Raptor 250.  For new sport riders, it’s perfect and the potential for this ATV is endless.  Walk into any Yamaha dealership, like John Burr Cycles in Fontana, California, and for a very reasonable price, you can pick one up and have a great time tonight, tomorrow, all weekend, and for years to come.

Part of the fun in ATVs and Side x Sides is spinning wrenches from time to time and installing modifications.  We’ve seen all manner of modifications over the years, from highly modified mud runners, to powerful motocross racers designed to soak up the biggest jumps with ease, to rock crawlers that can climb crab-like over boulders we can’t even walk up.  The owners always love their ride, and they also love to talk about it, but we’ve never heard anybody brag about their oil filter.

The Most Powerful Polaris Ever - The Scrambler XP 850 H.O.

We wondered when Polaris would build this model.  After all, there has scarcely been a day in Polaris history when there has not been a Scrambler ATV in the lineup.  Through the years the Scrambler had become synonymous with a sporty ride wrapped in a 4-wheel drive, do-it-all package, yet the existing Scrambler models were based on previous generation chassis and engine packages.  While the Polaris utility ATV lineup had evolved with ever more powerful engines and advanced, better riding chassis’ the poor Scrambler 500 had seemingly fallen from favor.

Installing extra parts and vehicle customizing is nothing new for ATV and Side x Side riders.  Almost everyone installs a few aftermarket goodies on their off-road toy, but some riders take that concept to the extreme.  Bobby Meeks is one such rider and a few new parts weren’t going to do it for him.

What a rush!  Only inches from the edge of the trail and just off my shoulder, the desert scrub was flying by as it never had before.  An endless whoop section slid under the nose of my Arctic Cat Wildcat X and ran to the horizon, or at least to the base of the parched El Paso Mountains on the opposite side of the valley.  The Wildcat effortlessly skipped across the top of knee-deep whoops like a Leopard running down its prey on the Serengeti Plain, head down and charging forward.

“We’re in with both feet, and we’re in it to stay.”  Honda’s Bill Savino left no doubt about the company’s position at a meeting before the official start of production of their new four-seat Side x Side, the Pioneer 700-4.  Not only did Honda open up about the innovative 700-4, but they were quick to share inside information about the recently announced two-seat version of the Pioneer 700 as well.  For a company that usually guards secrets like it was their grandmother’s jewels it was an unusually candid conversation.

A new set of gloves is always nice, but it’s not usually something we get overly excited about.  After all, if they fit well and keep our hands protected or warm, we’re usually “happy, happy, happy,” as the guy from Duck Dynasty would say.  Recently though, we tried a new set of gloves from Cabela’s that took hand comfort and convenience to a whole new level.

Woods Powr-Grip has been making tools for lifting and maneuvering difficult to grip pieces such as glass, stone, metal, etc. for almost 50 years.  Their gripping tools can be found working away on automotive assembly lines, installing glass panels on new skyscrapers, and even in the car repair shop pulling dents from body panels.  If you’ve got a tough surface to work with, they’ve got a tool that can get the job done.

Many off-roaders like to modify their machines or even fabricate their own parts.  There’s something very satisfying about saying “I built it myself”, and with the right tools in your shop much can be accomplished.  Whether you’re a weekend hobbyist or a professional fabricator though, sooner or later you’ll need bent tubing for your project and the right tool for making smooth, strong, consistent bends is a tubing bender.  When you need one nothing else will do.  Rogue Fabrication has your next favorite tool.
