Every time other companies begin to catch up, Polaris just presses their foot on the gas a little harder.  Watching the ATV and Side x Side lineups of major manufacturers evolve over the last several years reminds us very much of a race, and in many ways it is.  Rather than on the motocross or circle track, this race plays out in the showrooms, board rooms, and accounting offices.  We do our best to stay impartial, but after a while, we almost feel a little sorry for some of the other guys.

CYPRESS, Calif. – December 13, 2012 – Yamaha Motor Corp., U.S.A., is rounding out its utility ATV line with the addition of 2013 red utility ATVs produced at its Newnan, Georgia, manufacturing facility.  Red versions of Yamaha’s popular utility ATV models should start arriving at dealers before the end of the year and include the Grizzly 700 FI EPS, Grizzly 550 FI EPS and Grizzly 450 EPS. “Yamaha has strong demand from a variety of customer groups – including farmers and recreational users alike – for the red utility models, and we’ve seen our dealer partners ask for them this fall,” said Steve Nessl, Yamaha ATV/SxS group marketing manager.  “All of Yamaha’s 4x4 ATVs now come from its U.S. manufacturing facility in Georgia, which allows the company to respond more quickly to customer demands while also streamlining distribution.  It’s exciting to see that process in place.”

A few months ago, we tested a KYMCO UXV 500i Side x Side in the rocks of Moab, Utah.  Recently we had a chance to try an all-new 2013 MOAB Special Edition UXV 500i across the road from Charlotte Motor Speedway.  KYMCO had a big surprise waiting for us with the Moab Special Edition UXV 500i, but it wasn’t their only new model.  They’re also introducing two new ATVs, including one with their biggest engine yet.

It takes more than a few laps around the track or a quick ride through the dunes to truly get the feel for a machine.  We like to ride it, use it for work, maintain it, and live with it on our turf before we write any review.  It also helps to let many different riders try it as well, and although most machines hit the mark for some riders, there is one machine that is almost universally loved.  Welcome to the Polaris Sportsman 550.

The Gator species has evolved.  What began as the humble, hard-working AMT (All Materials Transport) back in 1987 has now become a very capable off-road performer.  John Deere has sold over 500,000 of their Gator utility vehicles, but never has there been one as quick, nimble, powerful, or just plain fun as the new RSX 850i, and now there are three!  These Gators are meant for much more than the farm!
