2012.yamaha.grizzly450eps.blue.front-right.riding.over-log.jpgYamaha’s Grizzly ATVs are some of the best-selling and most nimble utility ATVs on the market.  One of the best in their lineup is the Grizzly 450 EPS.

The engine on the Grizzly 450 EPS is a reliable, 4-stroke, 421cc liquid-cooled, SOHC design.  Electric start is standard and a gear-driven crankshaft balancer and rubber mounts keep vibration to a minimum.  Like every Grizzly, the 450 EPS utilizes a CVT transmission, and the unique Ultramatic transmission comes equipped with a centrifugal clutch paired with a one-way sprag clutch to control engine braking.  The advantage is constant belt tension and longer belt life.  Even the CVT air intake was designed to keep grit out, and the engine gets a large capacity radiator as well as a stainless steel exhaust.

On the trail, the new Grizzly 450 EPS feels nimble thanks to a robust chassis with dual A-arms up front, Independent Rear Suspension, and very good ground clearance.  Riding below the main frame is a tough, underbody composite skid plate.  It’s easy to maneuver through tight woods on the Grizzly 450 EPS and the suspension feels good for normal riding.  The slightly smaller chassis is comfortable, and the engine is predictable yet has enough power to conquer hills or tow a trailer, and it’s well matched to the chassis.  The most welcome feature, though, is the Electronic Power Steering which makes all day rides a breeze!

Yamaha’s Grizzly 450 EPS offers many of the same great features like comfort, readability, and reliability that have made its full sized brothers a favorite on the trails but in a slightly smaller, more affordable package.   It’s a great machine that offers excellent value and it’s our pick as Best 450cc Class Utility ATV of 2012.
