Minneapolis, May 28, 2014-After taking third last round at Loretta Lynn’s, Team UXC Racing’s Michael Swift took his second podium of the year with a second place finish at GNCC’s Mountaineer Run. Swift had a great start and by the second lap, had the No. 209 Polaris Scrambler XP 850 had moved into second position. He climbed his way into first and led most of the last two laps but a low fuel level made him lose power a few times costing him the lead by six seconds. Swift’s second-place finish also was the fourth fastest overall time for the race.

Minneapolis, March 10, 2014-The 2014 ATV Racing series has officially started and Polaris’ new ATV factory racing teams were out in full force. The Texas Off-Road Nationals (TORN) Round 1 were held in Boyd, Texas the first weekend in March. UXC Rider Chris Robinson piloted his Scrambler XP 1000 to a first-place finish. The course was a 5.5 mile loop consisting of whooped out sand sections, a few tight wooded areas, some dry creek beds and a few rocky hill climb sections. “The Polaris Scrambler XP 1000 EPS left the line hard and pulled strong all the way up the 50 plus foot hill. As we headed for the first tight wooded section I noticed passing lines were few and far between, so I settled in for the first few miles until I found a good line,” said Robinson. “At the four mile marker I made a pass for second place and by the beginning of lap two I had made the pass for first. By the end of lap two, I had a comfortable lead and rode smart while keeping a quick pace all the way to the checkered flag. I couldn’t be happier with the performance of this machine. The Scrambler felt light and nimble through the tight sections and very stable at high speeds.”

We wondered when Polaris would build this model.  After all, there has scarcely been a day in Polaris history when there has not been a Scrambler ATV in the lineup.  Through the years the Scrambler had become synonymous with a sporty ride wrapped in a 4-wheel drive, do-it-all package, yet the existing Scrambler models were based on previous generation chassis and engine packages.  While the Polaris utility ATV lineup had evolved with ever more powerful engines and advanced, better riding chassis’ the poor Scrambler 500 had seemingly fallen from favor.

Every time other companies begin to catch up, Polaris just presses their foot on the gas a little harder.  Watching the ATV and Side x Side lineups of major manufacturers evolve over the last several years reminds us very much of a race, and in many ways it is.  Rather than on the motocross or circle track, this race plays out in the showrooms, board rooms, and accounting offices.  We do our best to stay impartial, but after a while, we almost feel a little sorry for some of the other guys.

When it was introduced almost two decades ago in 1995, the Polaris Scrambler 400 made tracks into fresh territory. Before it there were only two ATV categories, sport and utility. The Honda 400EX, the Yamaha YFZ 450R and the Can-Am Outlander 800 weren't even on the drawing board, and custom built chassis ruled the racetrack, while the utility quad world was heavy on the utility side. Single cylinder, 400cc engines were the big bore powerhouses of the day. It all sounds like a tale that begins with: “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far, away…”
