GBC Motorsports Races into the John Penton GNCC

Anaheim, Calif. - June 11, 2015 - GBC Motorsports racers turned out to the John Penton GNCC in Millfield, Ohio looking to make an impact as the first part of the season comes to an end. With over 1330 riders and temperatures in the 80's it made for an exciting weekend of racing action.

GBC Motorsports racers have long been a force in the 4x4 classes, and this season has been no different with a multitude of class wins and podiums round after round. In the 4x4 Pro class Rob Smith and Tanner Bowles both put in solid runs, earning 4th and 5th place finishes, respectively. Smith’s consistency this season has him in 4th place in the standings as well.

Scott Day notched his sixth podium of the season with a 2nd place finish in the 4x4 A/B class. Day holds on to a comfortable class lead heading into the last round before the summer break. Forrest Whorton added a 2nd place finish in the 4x4 Senior action. Whorton has finished on the box in all but one race this year, which has him holding the class points lead after eight rounds of racing.

WXC class rookie Tori Fryer is really heating up lately. Coming off back to back top five finishes, Fryer charged hard and put it on the podium at the John Penton. The 2nd place finish was her second podium of the year, and earned her an impressive 20th overall. Kara Merritt also had a good ride in her home state grabbing 4th place in the highly competitive WXC division. Brittany Reebel pulled out her second consecutive 2nd place finish in the Women Amateur class, and is in 6th place in the standings despite only racing five of eight rounds so far.

The young Shane Pitzer has been solid all season long in the Schoolboy Sr. race action. His 3rd place at the John Penton GNCC was good enough for a season-best 6th place Overall. Pitzer holds on to his class lead heading into Snowshoe.

Kicking off the afternoon racing, GBC’s Johnny Gallagher put together a good race and finished in a solid 7th place in Ohio. Fellow GBC rider Kevin Yoho rounded out the top 10 after a first turn crash caused him to have to charge from the back of the pack all day long.

Marty Christofferson and Thomas Koontz represented GBC in the XC2 Pro-Am action. Christofferson pulled out the 5th place finish, keeping his season-long top 5 streak alive and keeping him in 3rd place in the standings. Koontz followed behind in 6th place.

Up-and-coming Kenny Shick rocked it at the John Penton, pulling out the College A win for the first time since the season opener. In addition to his class win Kenny also earned the prestigious Top Amateur award. Shick sits just one point out of 2nd place in the class. He’ll be one to watch for the rest of the season as that battle is sure to heat up.

Nathan Hornacek placed 3rd in the Junior A class and also is currently 3rd in the season point standings. Bryan Filicky added a class victory for GBC in the Junior B class for the second time this season. Walt Schumacher earned 4th in the Vet A class, and Brian Foltz was also 4th in senior A/B. Fellow GBC rider Todd Moskala took 3rd in the Vet B class, his fourth podium in a row.

GBC Motorsports racers next head to West Virginia for the Snowshoe GNCC, June 20-21. The GNCC will then take their summer break before resuming race action in September.
