2016.can-am.renegade-xc1000r.white.front-left.parked.in-woods.jpgThe ATV industry’s most definitive sport 4x4, which has proven itself in GNCC racing and in rugged terrain across the globe, receives increased performance for 2016. Can-Am offers three Renegade ATVs with varying engine displacement levels, all leading their respective classes in horsepower and performance. The highly popular, feature-laden X® xc package is now available with the new 850 and 1000R engines.

For 2016, the Rotax® V-Twin 1000R and 850 engines’ output levels were improved by 7 hp to 89 hp and 78 hp, respectively.

The Renegade 570 received a 2-hp increase to 48 hp. Two new colors also joint the family as Can-Am Red is the new color for the Renegade while a new White, Black & Can-Am Red color scheme is available with X xc package. All Renegade models now include the revised one-year (1,500 km / 932 mile) break-in maintenance requirements.

CAN-AM RENEGADE

PERFORMANCE

3 Rotax V-Twin engine options

The revamped 89-hp, 80º 976cc liquid-cooled V-twin DOHC, eight-valve Rotax engine in the Renegade 1000R has gained 9% more power and leads the ATV industry in performance. Updates include the design of the pistons, a new 54 mm throttle body and the new engine head from the Can-Am Maverick.™

The Renegade 850 is powered by the class-leading 78-hp, liquid-cooled, 80º 854cc V-twin engine. It, too, received larger pistons, a new 54 mm throttle body and the Maverick engine head, to increase power (+10%) and torque (+7%).

The 48-hp, eight-valve, liquid-cooled SOHC Rotax 570 V-Twin powering the Renegade 570 offers improved performance for the new model year.

The engine received larger pistons, longer stroke and a higher connecting rod to increase horsepower, torque and acceleration without compromising top-end speed. The efficient 570cc Rotax EFI-fed engine, which is mated to a 46mm throttle body, gained an additional 4% horsepower, 9% more torque in low and midrange RPM and remains very capable of work and play. EFI ensures optimal performance from the engine at all times.

CVT Transmission with revised “L” gear ratio

The CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) means no shifting is required. The system includes standard engine braking with High, Low, Park, Neutral and Reverse gears. The Renegade

ATVs all have a revised L gear ratio that is now 7% shorter, meaning more comfort and control for low-speed riding. The CVT housing has 13 bolts to ensure a proper seal and also includes an integrated drain plug.

Dual-room, no-tools air box

The no-tools air box is placed at a high and centralized location for filtering and processing air. It also has a dual-room air filtration design that captures dirty air in one portion of the box and clean air in another section before it sends the air to the engine. A higher air intake ensures performance in mud and water.

Large radiator

The large, efficient radiators offer exceptional cooling capacity to keep the Rotax V-Twin engines running cool for optimal performance. The Outlander 1000R has roughly 27 kW of cooling capacity. The 850, and 570 each have very capable 22 kW radiators.

High-grade exhaust and silencer

The Renegade has a performance-inspired exhaust system, including and a durable end cap/cover, that produces a throaty and impressive exhaust note, yet adheres to strict dB and emissions standards.

HANDLING

FOX† HPG™ shocks

The standard Renegade 850 and 1000R wear preload-adjustable FOX high-pressure gas (HPG) shocks, front and rear, with a specific calibration to soak up both high- and low-speed bumps and keep the ride smooth.

12-inch (30.5 cm) cast-aluminum wheels2016.can-am.renegade1000r.red_.rear-left.studio.jpg

The Renegade models have innovative computer-optimized, center-less wheels to reduce unsprung weight and offer improved strength.

25-inch (66 cm) ITP† Holeshot ATR tires

The Holeshot ATR is a versatile, high-traction tire for proven all-around trail performance.

Surrounding Spar Technology (SST™) G2 Frame

All Renegade models use an industry-exclusive Surrounding Spar Technology (SST) G2 frame from Can-Am. The welded-steel SST frame offers increased structural integrity and handling with fewer parts.

Torsional Trailing arm Independent (TTI™) rear suspension

Using far less moving parts than competitive systems, TTI was designed to eliminate scrub and camber changes when the suspension works up and down and keep the quad in straight line. Unique to Can-Am, the proven Torsional Trailing arm Independent rear suspension offers increased rigidity and improved suspension travel at 9.3 inches (23.6 cm). This suspension setup also includes a removable external sway bar and lower pivot points for geometric squatting to improve traction and the transferring of power to the ground.

Visco-Lok† front differential

The Visco-Lok front differential system progressively transfers power from a slipping front wheel to the gripping one – automatically with no buttons to push or levers to pull.

Double A-arm front suspension with dive-control geometry

The Renegade ATVs have a race-proven double A-arm configuration with motion-control shocks and five-way adjustable preload settings. Front-end suspension travel is 9 inches (22.9 cm). Dive-control geometry tightly controls the roll-center, especially when entering corners.

214 mm hydraulic disc brakes

Two large 214 mm disc brakes with twin-piston calipers up front and two, twin-piston caliper and 214 mm hydraulic disc brakes comprise the Renegade ATV braking system. It includes separate front and rear hand brake levers

RIDER-FOCUSED DESIGN

NEW Revised maintenance break-in

The early break-in maintenance requirement is no longer necessary on the Renegade vehicles, saving consumers time and money in the long run. The break-in has been revised to one year (1,500 km / 932 miles) from 10 hours (300 km / 186 miles).

Easy-to-use maintenance center

Easily accessible and out of the elements under the seat, a centralized maintenance area offers easier access and improved protection. The rear brake fluid reservoir, solenoid starter, battery and relays are also conveniently located under the seat.
