It’s not always a bad thing to be off the beaten path. Nestled outside the quaint towns of Sophia and Beckley, WV and surrounded on all sides by the Smokey Mountains, Burning Rock ATV Resort could definitely be considered well off the beaten path. That’s just the way we like it!

Saint Ignace, Michigan is a town with a history few other places can match. Over the years, it has been under the domain of at least three different countries and was inhabited by Native Americans who called the area home long before French explorers arrived. Today it’s often called the Gateway to the North, and it is both a tourist destination and the jumping off point for exploration and adventure in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. We were there for both.

They move and make mountains in Northern Minnesota. The mountains are not snow covered, alpine peaks, but instead are iron ore rich deposits that are milled into mountains of marble sized taconite pellets, ship-bound for steel mills, and soon to become the steel alloys used for everything from your pickup chassis to your high-strength ATV frame.

You don’t have to look far to find a great riding area in Pennsylvania, and one of the best is Rock Run Recreation Area near Patton. At 6500 acres sitting on former coal mining property, it’s big, it’s got plenty to do for all outdoor lovers, and it can be challenging.

RIDING the ROCK

Bingham Maine is “Up North” to almost every part of the United States. Up North is a term that has come to mean much more than geography though. For many it means a cabin retreat in the woods where the water is pure, the air smells of pine, and animals roam freely. It’s a year round, outdoor lover paradise. That describes pretty much all of Maine, but especially an outdoor adventure outfitter known as North Country Rivers.

Rush Off-Road’s E.B. Lowman is a man with a vision. Last year in our visit to his creation, we got our first glimpse of his vision, and as an avid trail rider himself, he knows exactly what it takes to create an excellent off-road facility. And he’s just getting started.

MORE RUSH in the MAKING

When a weekend off-road event draws more people than almost all NBA teams, it’s clearly something special. After last year’s record turnout at the wildly popular Polaris Camp RZR event held at Tennessee’s Brimstone Recreation, promoters Mark Love, his daughter Erika, and the Polaris team really mashed the throttle to the floor for an even bigger and better event this year. Goal achieved!

ARIZONA

Driving through Pennsylvania’s Northumberland County is much like other areas of the Eastern U.S where you find the best off-road parks. There are many back roads, sleepy towns, and rolling hills to explore, but this road leads to adventure, or more accurately, the Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area just outside of Shamokin, Pa. We were on our way to one of the newest and largest parks in the country for a ride with Team FCR.
