A New Way to Get More Out of, and Pack More Into Your Truck

vendor.2014.xtreme-gate.polaris-rzr.loaded.in-truck.jpgWe’re always looking for a way to get more out of every vehicle whether it’s an ATV or Side x Side or our truck.  The trouble is, with an ATV or Side x Side in the bed of our truck there’s barely any room left for any camping, hunting, or fishing gear.  While some of that can be jammed into the cab, a little more space in the back would be extremely handy.   The people from X-TREME GATE apparently had the same problem but they also came up with a unique solution.

Bed Time

There are only two ways to haul more gear with your truck; you can pile more stuff on top Beverly Hillbillies style, or you can extend the bed by dropping the tail gate.  While Jed Clampett would be proud of the first method, leaving the tailgate down creates another problem as you must prevent any of your gear, or worse, an ATV, from unloading itself on the highway.  That’s where the X-Treme Gate people have got your back.

The X-Treme Gate is a system that lets you use the tailgate as an extension of the bed, and when the X-Treme Gate is deployed it still provides a protective barrier to keep your gear safely inside.  Highlights of the X-Treme Gate are:

  • Adds up to 10 square feet of bed space
  • Can be deployed, or stowed, in under 10 seconds
  • Stays with the truck but is ready for use anytime you need it.
  • Backed by a Limited Lifetime Warranty
  • Bolt-in design prevents theft
  • Fully compatible with tonneau covers and with drop-in or spray-in bed liners
  • Fits all full-size pickups from 2009 and newer and any full-size pickup with a tailgate opening of at least 58 3/8”
  • Constructed of a patented blend of ABS and high-strength Polycarbonate.  Designed for high impact resistance, toughness, and heat resistance.  Similar product uses include golf club heads, automotive bumper bars, and whitewater canoes.
  • Weighs 32 pounds

The X-Treme Gate looked like a handy tool and before long we had one coming.  When it arrived we went right to work with a good set of instructions and ordinary shop tools in hand.  Approximately 20 minutes later we had the kit installed on our short box Ford F-150.  The X-Treme Gate fastens directly to the truck tailgate, and when it comes time to use it all you need to do is lower the tail gate, slide it out, fold out the side panels, and lock the sides in place.  You are now ready for extended hauling, but when it comes time for storage just reverse the process.vendor.2014.xtreme-gate.close-up.with-ramps.jpg

Road Test

We found the X-Treme Gate to be highly durable and it definitely adds to bed space.  We like the side clips that lock into the trucks latch post and we can now haul an ATV with room to carry extra gear securely.  Due to their length most Side x Sides are often too large to fit in with the gate fully deployed, but then again that depends on the size of your truck and the length of whatever you are hauling.  In those cases we simply put our ramps up to the tailgate and drove over the top of the X-Treme Gate system as if it wasn’t even there.  In either case though, when hauling an ATV or Side x Side it’s only smart to have a few high-strength tie-downs strapped between your truck and your machine as a safety precaution.

There are endless applications that make the X-Treme gate a very cool addition and handy tool for your truck.  It makes your truck more useful by adding space easily and quickly, and regardless of what make or model you drive it’s all but guaranteed they’ve got one for you.
