You are going to replace your stock tires someday, but don’t wait until they are completely worn down to the carcass. Changing to a tire that fits your riding style and the terrain where you normally ride is one of the best ways to improve your machine. Recently we changed out the tires on our trusty RZR we use for the trails, and our do-it-all, hard working Ranger. Why hadn’t we done this earlier?

TRAIL BOSS – The 446 RADIAL UTILITY TIRE

Trail riding takes a toll on tires quick, especially in some of the parks we normally visit like the Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area, Hatfield McCoy, or Rush off-road. The combination of hard pack trails and sharp, rocky sections both wear down the leading edge quickly, and can puncture or cut exposed sidewalls. We’ve cut more than one tire on sharp rocks buried in the trail. The QUADBOSS 446 Radial Utility tire was designed to eliminate that problem.

You don’t have to be a trail rider to appreciate the benefits of the QUADBOSS 446 tire. Anybody looking for a smooth riding, highly durable tire will appreciate its features. The 446 is a fully radial tire which gives three main benefits: it helps maintain consistent shape and dimension, it makes it extremely resistant to punctures, and it offers a smoother ride. Highlights of the 446 tire are:

  • Ultra-durable, 8-ply radial carcass

  • Radial casing with over-center tread design for super smooth ride

  • Extremely puncture resistant

  • ¾" tread depth

  • Versatile tread patterns perform well in soft to hard pack conditions

  • Non-directional tread design works regardless of how they are mounted.

Just like with catchers mitts, cash in your wallet, and chocolate cake, thicker is better, and the same goes for tires. The QuadBoss 446 Radial Utility tire has a tough, 8-ply inner carcass for durability, but the tread pattern was also designed both for traction and protection. About the only drawback to 8-ply tires is the extra weight. For smaller displacement machines that could mean extra wear on your CVT belt or driveline, but on our 1000cc RZR it wasn’t a big deal.vendor.quadboss.446-radial-tire.on-polaris-rzr.riding-on-path.jpg

During our first ride with the new 446 Radial Tire it was immediately evident this was a much different tire than the stock tires. The 8-ply construction reduced side wall flex in aggressive cornering, making the handling more precise, but straight line traction was also increased. We like the tread pattern on the 446 tires. They get a good bite on the terrain, then drive you forward. The lugs also wrap around onto the sidewall which helps the tires grab traction in deep, muddy ruts. When looking for traction it seems every lug helps, even those on the side of the tire. They also serve a secondary purpose; they help protect the sidewall. We were also happy to find the tires clean out well on the sloppy, muddy trails, and the overlapping center lugs deliver a smooth ride on hardpack surfaces. We like them!

JOB BOSS – The QBT 447 tire

Our Ranger gets plenty of use hauling firewood, towing a trailer or garden tools, and as a work vehicle around the farm. We needed a do-it-all tire that could perform whether there was snow on the ground or slick mud in the spring or fall. QuadBoss had the answer with their QBT447 tire.

The first thing we noticed with the QBT 447 tires is the profile which is slightly more rounded than a performance tire. This means a smoother ride over rough ground, which would be perfect when crossing any fields where the ground had been worked. QuadBoss must really like treads that wrap well onto the sidewall of the tire because the 447’s carry this same feature. Even though we don’t really need the same sidewall protection as we do on our performance machine, this is sure to be a great feature for grabbing extra traction. To insure the tires hold up they get a 6-ply inner carcass for improved ride and durability. Highlights of the QBT 447 tires are:

  • Tough 6-ply bias construction with 3/4-inch tread depth

  • Wrap around lugs give extra sidewall protection and excellent bite

  • Directional tread pattern excels in loose to intermediate terrains

  • Unique center treat pattern sheds mud but also provides smooth ride on hard pack

  • Load rated for most ATVs and UTVs

We really like the tread pattern on the QBT 447 tire. In some ways it reminds us of a stock Polaris tire, but with features that enhance its ride and performance. It’s a little more aggressive, but still delivers a smooth ride thanks to the center lug layout that insures a flat surface is always in contact with the ground. The 6-ply construction also gives it a more precise feel when cornering and much improved puncture resistance even with the Ranger bed fully loaded. Most of all, there is a lot more surface to grab traction with this tire thanks to the extended sidewall lugs, and you can definitely feel that when the trail gets sloppy or in loose, sandy conditions. For our use around the farm and woods they’ve performed very well with no drawbacks. We’re even going to install a set on our Suzuki ATV for plowing snow this winter. We give them two thumbs up!vendor.quadboss.446-c-radial-tire.scoville-boss-wheels.jpg

TRAIL BEAUTY – NEW WHEELS!

One of the easiest ways to dress up your machine is to install a set of aftermarket wheels. Besides looking great they also have to be functional though, and for any hi-performance or working machine they must be strong as well.

Cast aluminum wheels can meet all three conditions and QuadBoss has several different models to pick from. All of the QuadBoss wheels share the same common traits. They are:

  • Built to handle off-road abuse and look awesome doing it.

  • Strong and lightweight.

  • Precision machined from aircraft-quality aluminum

  • All wheels come with trick custom center caps. Wheels are rated 573 lbs. to 727 lbs.

  • Backed by lifetime warranty

We installed a set of the SCOVILLE BOSS wheels on our RZR 1000. They’ve held up extremely well for us and we never worry about bent rims with this setup. When mounting your tires on these wheels use a little dish soap and water to make the tire slip over the bead and seat properly. After that all you’ll need to do is give them a bath when you wash your machine, and sit back and admire the beauty!
