vendor.2014.rm-stator.polaris-sportsman.parked.on-trail.jpgThere are millions of older model ATVs and early Side x Sides still on the trail and ready for another decade of action. Like an older truck, though, after long and faithful service even the best of machines will require a little massaging, and some parts are known to be prone to failure. Ignition and electrical problems always pop up unexpectedly with no warning, they’re often difficult to diagnose, and they’re never cheap to fix. Luckily, we have found a solution for one of the most common electrical problems on one of the most common engines ever built, and we promise you’ll love the solution as much as we do. It’s easy, quick, and cost effective.

About a year ago, we reported on a new product from RM Stator that would repair the faulty ignitions on several models of Polaris Sportsman ATVs (http://atvillustrated.com/content/tech-troubleshooter-polaris-sportsman-...). For a fraction of the cost of OEM parts, the RM Stator Ignition Fix converted the faulty AC-powered ignition to a much more reliable DC-powered system that would keep your Sportsman driving strong into the future.

Recently, RM Stator has expanded its line of DC Ignition upgrades to include many more models of Polaris Sportsman ATVs as well as many Scramblers, Xplorers, Magnums, and even Ranger 500’s ranging from 1994 to 2004. Like its predecessor, this kit replaces the failure-prone AC-powered CDI unit with a brand new unit that draws its power from the vehicle’s 12v DC power source rather than the stator’s source coil. Installation for the latest kit is super easy. It’s even simpler than the original upgrade - you just plug in a few connectors, attach a chassis ground, and tap into a 12v power supply. CDI failures go hand in hand with stator failures on these particular models, but the RM Stator Ignition Upgrade kits kill two birds with one stone. The replacement CDI does not depend on the commonly weak source coil on your OEM stator, so there is no reason to open your engine cover to replace the expensive stator!

RM Stator also offers tech support to not only help you with any of their products should the need arise, but to help you accurately diagnose your problems the first time so you aren’t wasting your money on a product you don’t need. Retail price on any of the Polaris Ignition Upgrade kits is a bargain at $249. If your Polaris is dead in the water, give RM Stator a call and they’ll have you back up and running quickly and affordably!

Back on the Trail

We’ve tried a lot of aftermarket parts. Some work outstandingly well, and some not so great. Simple, cost effective fixes like the brilliant ones developed by RM Stator always leave us with two questions though: why didn’t we think of this and why didn’t our machine come this way in the first place?
