It’s not the high horsepower, feature packed ATVs and Side x Sides you see shredding dunes and wading through swamps, and that get the lions share of attention. The most important vehicles in power-sports are the highly capable, ultimately customizable models built for both work and play, and youth ATVs that introduce new riders to the sport. The vast majority of ATV and Side x Side owners will never enter a race, but they do love a spirited trail ride, along with the ability to haul camping gear, or a load of landscape bark with equal ease. YOUTH MOVEMENT – A NEW OUTLAW
The 2020 Polaris OUTLAW 70 EFI is what a youth ATV should be. It’s comfortable for kids of various sizes, super easy to operate, stable, and most importantly, safe. It even comes with a helmet and safety flag!
We like the direction Polaris took with the design of the 2020 Outlaw 70 EFI. The overall chassis is slightly larger than many youth models, and that makes it a little more comfy for rapidly growing riders. As a replacement for the Outlaw 50, the 70 cc 4 stroke engine has a little more power, but extra features as well. There is no shifting thanks to the CVT style transmission, and a single lever braking system activates the hydraulic disc brakes at both front wheels and on the solid rear axle. Parents can even limit top speed thanks to a throttle limiter! We also like the restyled front end and extra protection from the sturdy, steel front bumper. So what is out favorite feature on the OUTLAW 70? That’s easy: EFI. Some youth models – including a few from Polaris – suffer from poor carburation, making them difficult to start and rough running at times. It’s no fun fiddling with a carburetor while an all-too-eager eight year in full riding gear looks on, waiting to makes laps around the field. EFI is the answer to that problem, and the OUTLAW 70 EFI is the first youth ATV to offer it. Consider it a gift from Polaris to parents. The Outlaw 70 EFI is available in White/Red or White/Pink graphic options and will be available in Polaris dealers beginning in April. That’s just in time for riding season when a whole new group of youth riders will begin their lifelong love of off-road exploration.

The Polaris General can be considered a crossover machine, drawing from the best of the hard working Ranger lineup with a healthy dose of RZR performance wrapped in a stylish, sporty package. The dash and cab area is nicely sculpted, the digital instrument cluster is easy to read, and the seating position is slightly higher than RZR, but not as tall as the Ranger seating. We feel the General seating is more comfortable than either of it’s cousins, and the drivers seat is also adjustable.
Both the General 1000 Sport and the RZR share a nearly identical engine, but tuning is designed to match the chassis. This is done with a different EFI map and a slightly different CVT clutch set up geared more toward weight and towing capacity. A rear cargo box is capable of hauling 600 lbs, and the rear receiver hitch is rated for 1500 lbs of towing.
On the trail the General 1000 Sport loves to be driven fast thanks to it’s RZR inspired chassis, dual A-arms, and 12 inches of ground clearance. Twelve inches of wheel travel at the front and over 13” at the rear delivers a plush ride over choppy terrain, allowing you to drive the General like the performance vehicle it is. You drive the Ranger with the steering wheel; you drive the General with the throttle! Thankfully, the Generals brakes are capable of handling all the power the engine can dish out, with twin piston calipers in front, and single piston calipers at the rear. Mash on the brakes and it will bring you to a safe, controlled stop. Pedal pressure is perfect.
We love the look of the General 1000 Sport but you can accessorize it to your hearts content thanks to the extensive Polaris accessory program. The GENERAL 1000 Sport is available in Avalanche Gray and will be in dealerships in April. You won’t be disappointed!
