HOT SHOT’S HAND SANITIZER

IT’S NOT FOR YOUR ENGINE, BUT IT’S IN STOCK AND WHAT YOU NEED NOW

Thomas Jefferson once wrote, “I have wished to see chemistry applied to domestic objects, to malting, brewing, making cider, to fermentation and distillation generally, to the making of bread, butter, soaps, &c.” To Jefferson, chemistry was another science to be studied, with the knowledge gained to be used for the betterment of his fellow man. While brewing and making soap certainly rank as worthy accomplishments of the field, one of the most pressing demands of the day is for hand sanitizer.

HOT SHOTS SECRET HAND SANITIZER

More accustomed to hands dirtied by working on engines than those at the sides of a hospital bed, HOT SHOT’S SECRET and their parent company Lubrication Specialties, Inc., specialize in diesel engine additives. The laws of chemistry aren’t limited to any particular discipline however, and as the need for hand sanitizer far outpaced supply, the labs that created products to increase engine efficiency now switched to products designed to clean hands. Details of the Hot Shot’s Secret Hand Sanitizer are:

  • Safe, effective, formula produced in USA from a WHO recommended formula

  • 80% Alcohol by Volume

  • Topical, non-sterile solution

  • Non-dispensing cap

  • Available in a variety of package sizes, from a few ounces up to a 50 gallon barrel, and 330 gallon tote sized!

  • Can be ordered online, and shipped from their central Ohio location.

CHEMISTRY LAB 101

Whether creating engine additives or cleaning solutions, either product is just a matter of the correct chemical compounds and proven lab practices. When asked about how Hot Shot’s Secret came upon the idea of making hand sanitizer products, Erin Houser, Account Executive at Lubrication Specialties, Inc. offered the following:

We originally wanted to help our trucking customers who were keeping America rolling during this crisis, and our idea was to setup food tents in rest areas since they can’t go through a drive through, and many restaurants are closed. Although it was a good idea, it was beyond our practical reach since we aren’t a restaurant or food service company. We’re really good at working with chemicals though, and those same drivers needed hand sanitizer just like everybody else, so we did what we do best. We made a batch of 4000 bottles for the drivers and gave them away. Then other people found out about it and started calling and requesting larger quantities. We talked about what we could provide and how to deliver it, and got it into production.”

So how difficult is it to switch to a product like hand sanitizer?

Basically, we are a certified lab and a liquid bottling company. It’s a different liquid, but there are a lot of parallels. The formula is pretty simple, and the government specifies the formula and what you can use. After that it’s like baking brownies: You just follow their directions. We had to switch over the plumbing and bottling lines, but we switched them over in one day! Now we have four bottling lines running around the clock. We had no idea the demand would be this big!”

When asked what some of the challenges were, Houser replied:

There is a worldwide shortage of small bottles right now. You can’t get them anywhere, so we are advising people to keep their small bottle they already have and refill it.. Smaller bottles are in very high demand.”

How are the employees at Lubrication Specialties holding up?

We are a science lab and can make the product here, but our staff is being safe. Everything in our office is cleaned twice a day, from the door knobs to the desks! We just can’t sit next to each other at lunch.”

FROM LAB TO DOOR LANDING

Luckily, Hot Shot’s Secret had all the shipping logistics in place for their other products. That makes ordering their hand sanitizer a breeze. You can order it online, but you are likely going to have to order 16oz bottles or larger due to the shortage of the smaller containers. Jefferson would be proud of his countries efforts, and amazed to see how far science and chemistry have come.
