In our original review of the Yamaha Raptor 250, we said that it’s the best ATV there has ever been for new sport riders, and we still stand by that statement. What makes the Raptor 250 special - and the entire Yamaha Raptor family - is that it’s a true sport machine designed for superb handling, with a snappy, fun powerband from a bullet proof motor capable of decades of reliable riding. No other quad we have been on inspires more pure fun. Without fail, every time two or more Raptor 250 riders get together, an impromptu race breaks out. Look up the definition of fun in the dictionary, and you are likely to find a photo of the Raptor 250.
At its core the Raptor 250 is a pure sport machine. It’s got the racy lines, a suspension derived from the championship winning YFZ 450, chain drive, and a potent, quick revving 249cc two-valve, four-stroke engine with electric start mated to a five speed gearbox. Unlike many intro machines that are a collection of compromises often derived from a watered down, rebadged utility machine, the Raptor 250 was designed with only one purpose in mind; to be the hands down best small sport ATV on dirt, and it excels far beyond any other in its class. Ergonomics of the Raptor 250 speak to its sporty nature as well, and the narrow tank area makes it very comfortable whether riding aggressively or cruising down the trail. In the air or on the ground, it’s extremely confidence inspiring thanks to a superb suspension. Every time we take the Raptor 250 out, we’re reminded of why we’ve become so fond of it, and in some ways why we started riding in the first place. The Yamaha Raptor 250 is reliable, predictable, an absolute blast to play on, and pure riding enjoyment. The beloved Raptor 250 is easily the Best 300cc Sport ATV of 2010 and likely for years to come.
