Fuel injected ATVs are becoming the norm on showroom floors these days. We have to admit that it’s awful nice to not have to babysit a choke knob for the first few minutes of your morning warmup, and to know that our EFI equipped engines will always be running in their sweet spot regardless of temperature or elevation. Still, many riders prefer a good old carburetor for a variety of reasons, and some have even removed their EFI components to go back to a carbureted engine.
North Country Rivers; The Up North, All Terrain, All Weather Adventure Home
Bingham Maine is “Up North” to almost every part of the United States. Up North is a term that has come to mean much more than geography though. For many it means a cabin retreat in the woods where the water is pure, the air smells of pine, and animals roam freely. It’s a year round, outdoor lover paradise. That describes pretty much all of Maine, but especially an outdoor adventure outfitter known as North Country Rivers.
A Year in the Saddle of the Polaris Scrambler XP 1000
Holeshot Ace, Pete Bengel
I’ve often questioned the logic in large displacement ATVs - especially ones close to or north of 700lbs. on the scale. Yeah, we all like to have bragging rights when it comes to having the most horsepower, but when does it just become too much of a good thing? When Polaris released their Scrambler 1000, it was no exception to those thoughts. And even though initial ride impressions were that it was extremely nimble and forgiving for a one-liter titan of an ATV, it was still a heavy, extremely fast monster.
Kawasaki may not have the largest lineup of ATVs and Side x Sides but without fail, the models they do offer all carry three important traits. Across the board the Kawasaki ATVs and Side x Sides are rugged, reliable, and extremely versatile. They’re ready for work or play, and they’ll never let you down.
If you’re going to play in the mud, you can plan on getting stuck at some point. Most of us learned this lesson as kids the first time we left our boots in a muddy field, and the same principal applies to our toys today. Unlike your stranded boots though, getting your ATV or Side x Side out of the muck is a whole lot more challenging.
Every move at Honda is calculated. That’s why when they call their new Pioneer 1000 “the most important new Honda in 15 years,” they mean every word of it, and they’ve put everything they know about design, engineering, and manufacturing into it. And their resources are considerable.
The Polaris ACE marked a different direction in the development of Side x Sides. The ACE wasn’t exactly an ATV, although it did appear to be the offspring of a mating between the RZR 570 and a Sportsman ATV. It wasn’t exactly a Side x Side either; even though it has a steering wheel, roll cage, and a bucket seat. One thing we knew for sure is that we needed to spend more time on, or maybe we should say “in” it.
Moving from Michigan to Colorado was a tough decision. Being born and raised in Michigan, my family and I grew to love the outdoors, with all the lakes and forests, what’s not to like. And Michigan supplied plenty of outdoor activities to make every weekend a joy.
Once we got all our stuff packed and moved out west to the Centennial state, our weekends didn’t change much, except hiking at higher altitude, and how we were in awe of the beauty of these incredible mountains and the thousands of acres of forest that surrounded us every weekend.

There’s no way around it. You are going to replace your stock tires someday, but don’t wait until they are completely worn down to the carcass. Changing to a tire that fits your riding style and the terrain where you normally ride is one of the best ways to improve your machine. Recently we changed out the tires on our trusty RZR we use for the trails, and our do-it-all, hard working Ranger. Why hadn’t we done this earlier?
Rush Off-Road’s E.B. Lowman is a man with a vision. Last year in our visit to his creation, we got our first glimpse of his vision, and as an avid trail rider himself, he knows exactly what it takes to create an excellent off-road facility. And he’s just getting started.
