There aren’t many buildings on the planet to rival Kawasaki Motor Manufacturing’s rail car production plant on the gently rolling plains outside Lincoln, Nebraska. At over 1600’ long, it’s positively enormous, Then again, Kawasaki is used to building things on a big scale and besides rail cars, motorcycles, construction equipment, helicopters, and a long list of other products, they also build supertankers that would barely fit inside the cavernous structure.
Driving through Pennsylvania’s Northumberland County is much like other areas of the Eastern U.S where you find the best off-road parks. There are many back roads, sleepy towns, and rolling hills to explore, but this road leads to adventure, or more accurately, the Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area just outside of Shamokin, Pa. We were on our way to one of the newest and largest parks in the country for a ride with Team FCR.
Tall Pines ATV Park near Andover, New York is the newest area for Northeastern riders looking for a family friendly trail riding adventure. It’s a little like a trip to your grandparents’ farm, a weekend camping trip, and a good ol’ mud bog and riding adventure, all in one place!
Care to guess which manufacturer builds the most models of ATVs and Side x Sides? Most people would pick Polaris as we did, but it got us thinking - just how many models do they make? The answer surprised even us, and when the company that has recorded so many firsts in the industry released their 2015 lineup, they crossed another huge threshold. With different models and configuration packages, Polaris now has over 100 models to choose from. For 2015 Polaris really put the throttle down and released a huge number of new ATVs and the Side x Sides, hitting practically every type of user.
The Kawasaki Teryx4 is a rock solid machine. It’s tough, powerful, comfortable, and it’s more nimble than any other four-seater on the trail. We love it! We also can’t leave well enough alone, and after a couple trips to the woods, we decided that the Teryx4 was the perfect candidate for a few, simple bolt-on accessories to make our trail riding experience even better.
Inside Honda's Secret Museum and Motor Vehicle Archives
There are a few places in this world that are so secret they’re off limits to all but a lucky few. The Vatican archives and art collection, NASA’s science and engineering laboratories and Hondas product planning and design center all come to mind. Without divine intervention and a blessing from the Pope or the President, you’re unlikely to ever make it inside the first two.
The last decade has not been kind to Wolverines, whether it was the economic downturn felt by the Wolverine State of Michigan, the four-legged forest dweller, or the cellar dwellers of Big Ten football, the Michigan Wolverines. All three were seemingly on the brink of extinction, and even the comic book character Wolverine was killed off in recent months, but there may be hope on the horizon.
Yamaha Updates Our Favorite Sand Blaster, The Mighty Raptor 700R
As much as we enjoy climbing up a rocky trail or slogging through a muddy pond on a utility ATV, we’ll always be sport riders at heart. The challenge of shifting up through the gears, pitching your machine around a corner, or sailing off a jump is more intense on a sport machine, and we really like how a great sport machine can challenge your skills as much as the trail. Nothing else can match the power to weight ratio and acceleration, especially if you’re on a healthy 450cc machine, or better yet, Yamaha’s Raptor 700.
To bring home big bucks, truckloads of hunters spend big bucks on the latest bow, custom rifle, and NASA grade optics, but despite how technology has changed hunting in the last decade, no other tool we can think of has transformed the sport more than an ATV or UTV. If there were ever vehicles made for the needs of hunters, these are it. Thanks to their ability to cross difficult terrain, it’s also possible to get much farther away from camp. For hunters with limited physical capabilities, that can mean the difference between getting out in the woods and not going at all.
